Liquid Encapsulation Coating for

Rust, Lead Paint and Hazmats With Rust Grip®

Removing rust from metal or iron doesn't work. Rust always comes back, unless...

Metal needs to be protected from the moisture and oxygen that causes rust. Rust Grip® is designed to embed in the substrate and seal air, moisture, and minerals out of surfaces. It replaces the typical three-coat adhesive system with a one coat system. It acts as a primer, intermediate, and topcoat with a single application and minimal prep work. It covers concrete, steel, wood and other surfaces adding structural integrity to whatever it is applied to.

Uses:

Can you aford not to use Rust Grip?

  • Encapsulate and seal lead-based paints, asbestos, or other hazardous materials
  • Corrosion and weathering protection. Rust Grip® is UV-controlled and is not affected by hostile environments
  • Overcoat rusted areas to prevent and control further corrosion. Rust Grip® will seal out any contact with moisture and air or chemical pollutants that breed corrosion activity
  • Prime metal with Rust Grip® before over-coating
  • Protect floors to prevent wear and damage, whether concrete, metal or other materials
  • Anti-slip coating when combined with aggregates, for use around high traffic areas
  • Protection from acid splash or pooling. Rust Grip® will not allow acids to penetrate to affect the surface
  • Proven/tested under ASTM as a "water-barrier" over concrete, block and masonry.
How Rust Grip Works

Characteristics

• Silver-Gray in color • Moisture Cure Polyurethane • Cures to 6780+ psi tensile strength • Recoat window: 1 hour to 24 hours without profiling surface (according to current temperature and humidity) • Impact Resistant • Can be used to encapsulate asbestos and lead-based paint. • Aluminum metallic base • Permeability: 0.22 perms • Dries to touch in 2 hours at 70° F • 50% solids by weight • 51.37 solids by volume • VOC Level is 414 grams per liter • Very good chemical resistance, but not recommended for use with ammonia • UV controlled and is not affected by most caustic environments. • Currently used on bridges and guard rails to encapsulate lead-based paint and galvanized metal. • Can withstand electrical currents without losing adhesion. (important for underground pipes and tanks) • Shelf Life: Up to 3 years (unopened) under appropriate storage conditions. • 15-20 years life expectancy when properly applied
Rust Grip® is designed to be applied directly over flash or existing surface rust to provide the best profile for the coating to penetrate, encapulate, and lock the exiastig rust and surface tightly. Rust Grip® penetrates deep into the pores of the existing substrate to encapsulate, then swells to anchor into the surface profile, and seals at a minimum 6,780psi surface tensile strength (ASTM E1795). The surface flash rust provides a profile and a bond to the metal surface of the substrate that offers millions of tiny anchors directly into the metal surface. When this profile is encapsulated and strengthen to 6,780psi tensile strenght, the coating and the metal become one unit that is tight, strong and very secure. Rust Grip® out performs topical surface coatings with solvents that allow it to penetrate into the pores of a surface. Traditional coating systems adherer to roughness on the coating surface layers like a glue and are suceptable to attrition and loss of adhesion over time. Oxidation and acid rain can enter and set off corrosion even though the surface coating remains intact. Rust Grip®'s low molecular weight solvents allow it to saturate deep into the pores of the metal or concrete substrate so deep penetration can occur. After it penetrates, Rust Grip draws moisture from the atmosphere which reacts with the active ingredients of the base component. The results in a gassing effect of the molecules causing them to expand and swell into all the pores to block out air, gasses and moisture and to encapsulate the surface. After it encapsulates, Rust Grip® cures to 6,780psi surface tensile strength (concrete start around 3,500psi by comparison) within three (3) weeks and continues to toughen over time. When other corrosion coatings are applied to surfaces after a complete white metal blast, corrosion developes after only six (6) months to two (2) years under the film coating, causing bubbles on the surface from the off-gassing of the corrosion. This happens because the surface has developed flash rust before the corrosion coating was finally applied, and the coating was not designed to penetrate and encapsulate. As a result, corrosion reappears. Rust Grip® penetrates directly into and through 1/16th” of surface rust, swells, anchors, and encapsulates so that the surface can not breathe, can not get moisture, and can not oxidize again. Where ther is no moisture, there is no corrosion. Rust Grip® will not only provide an outstanding, long term solution against corrosion, it will tremendously reduce the impact to the environment and exposure to workers and other people to hazardous materials such as lead based paint. CASE STUDY Morrow, Georgia – Cobb County Bridge A county bridge was down-graded from a 10 ton load capacity to a 3 ton load capacity, due to rust and deterioration of the substructure. After replacing some of the original deteriorated substructure, the entire steel structure and concrete was coated with Rust Grip® The State’s re-certification process upgraded the bridge to a 21 ton load capacity. The bridge superintendent stated that much of the increase in load capacity was due to Rust Grip® strengthening both the concrete and steel. Window Cycling Test – VTEC Laboratories – New York Preparation : Rust Grip® was used to encapsulate a double - hung window removed because of having LBP (leadbased paint.) A machine was devised to use an electronic opening and closing rotary wheel with a digital counter specifically for this test. This allowed the window to be opened and closed at two second intervals. Procedure: The test was designed to measure friction wear of a coating over LBP to find the failure point of friction wear that would expose the hazardous LBP. The tested window completed 20,000 cycles of opening and closing, which is equal to the opening and closing of a window once a day, every day for 54 years. Conclusion: A visual inspection showed no wear or friction burn through, and no LBP exposed after 20,000 cycles. Wiping test with a sterile gauze pad proved no LBP.
